JAKE BUXTON left the club today after a two week trial. The former Mansfield centre back failed to impress enough in the two friendly games against Quorn and Wrexham recently.

However, the Alex have offered French defender Stéphane Zubar a trial. Having been released by French Division Two side SM Caen, the 21 year old is hoping to win a contract in the English leagues. His brother, Ronald Zubar, currently plays for Marseille and has represented the French U-21s.

STEVE HOLLAND released the squad numbers for the 2008-2009 season today, but left Gary Roberts off the squad list. The tantrum prone midfielder has missed most of the pre-season training having been transfer listed this summer. Cardiff City had approached the club about Roberts but manager Dave Jones failed to follow it up.

Steven Schumacher has therefore taken over Roberts’ number four shirt, whilst Eugene Bopp has been given the number seven shirt. New signing Joel Grant will wear number 11 and Calvin Zola will wear number 10.

The newest recruit – Anthony Elding – signed too late to take a prime number so therefore will wear number 24. The youngsters who were recently given pro contracts by the club haven’t been given squad numbers, giving them further incentive going into next season.
