Crewe Alexandra appear set to lose out in their quest to re-sign striker Billy Bodin from Swindon Town.

The 20-year-old forward is poised to join Torquay United according to reports after the League Two club increased their original offer.

The Gulls had already seen an opening bid of around £40,000 rejected last week but the two clubs are understood to be close to settling upon a fee nearer to £70,000.

Bodin spent a spell on loan at Plainmoor last season before eventually finishing the campaign on a similar deal at Crewe.

He was subsequently offered new terms with the Robins, but after appearing surplus to requirements last term had already created interest from a number of other clubs.
