Crewe will get a Christmas cheque from Preston North End if all goes well. It will be part of the Billy ‘half pace’ Jones deal that took the defender to Deepdale in the summer.

Currently on 13 games for Preston, Jones only needs to make two more appearances in a Preston shirt before £62,500 makes it’s way to Gresty Road.

So, with Billy set to take trips to Burnley and Southampton over the next two weekends we can expect the money any day.

Preston have so far only paid £250,000 for Billy, who’s represented England at every youth level. We are however due £62,500 for every 15 appearances Jones makes up to his 60th appearance.

Crewe will also be receiving a New Year gift in the shape of £250,000. As ruled at the tribunal, the £250,000 must be made in the new year to take the set fee up to £500,000. We will also receive £250k if Billy Jones helps Preston achieve promotion to the Premiership, but that’s looking unlikely at the moment with professional Preston bottom of the league. Oh well, maybe he just can’t be bothered this season?
