Crewe Alexandra have completed the signing of former Northampton Town winger Daniel Powell on a 2-year deal that contains an option of an additional year. He becomes the second signing of the summer after the arrival of centre-back Olly Lancashire last week.
Powell, 28, started his career at MK Dons where he made his first-team debut at the age of 17 (scoring within 6 minutes of that debut) and established himself in their team after loan spells at Crawley Town, Forest Green Rovers and Darlington before spending the last 2 seasons at Sixfields.
As well as playing out wide, he can also play through the middle as a centre forward.
What does the signing mean for the Alex next season?
We’ve just signed a 6ft 2 winger so it’ll be interesting to see how if we change our style a little when we play with him in the team and generally how we will line-up next season with him, Kirk, Ainley and Dale all available as wide options in the squad before looking at him as a central player when we look to give Porter a rest.
