Following an opening day defeat to Preston Women and then another away day defeat to Stockport Ladies, home advantage did the Crewe Ladies no favours as they lost for a third consecutive game going down 3-1 to Sunderland Women.

Having lost the first two games away from home, first team coach Terry Unitt would have been hoping for a resurgent performance from his team on home turf at the Cumberland Sports Ground.

Unfortunately Sunderland proved to strong an opposition and Crewe Ladies will look towards their next fixture at home to Aston Villa Ladies on Wednesday evening to kick start their season.

They now sit 11th in the Women`s Premier League North with a minus four goal difference with only Rotherham Ladies below them, also on zero points but having played a game more and with a minus twelve goal difference.

The Crewe Alexandra Ladies Reserves have also had a poor start to the season having played two games, starting with a 3-0 defeat away to Blackburn Ladies Reserves and then losing 3-2 in a thrilling home game against Aston Villa Ladies Reserves, which by all accounts they didn`t deserve to lose.

England Women begin their World Cup campaign in China on Tuesday against Japan in a 1pm kick off. England`s group is completed by Germany and Argentina who met on Monday in the opening game, with the defending champions Germany romping home to an 11-0 victory.
