Having successfully raided non-league circles for a new goalscorer last summer, Crewe Alexandra are hoping it’s a case of a repeat scenario this time around.

“If he can have the same sort of impact as Pogs then it would be another good signing for us” – Steve Davis

In July 2012 the Railwaymen signed Wrexham marksman Mathias Pogba after scoring a dozen goals in the Conference Premier. The 22-year-old soon proved a wise investment as he bettered his previous season’s tally by four goals despite the higher level until being struck down by injury on Easter Monday.

Just short of twelve months on and the Alex have followed the same procedure and turned to former Sheffield Wednesday youngster Vadaine Oliver, who helped himself to fourteen goals for struggling Conference outfit Lincoln City last term.

“He has a lot of potential and if he can have the same sort of impact as Pogs then it would be another good signing for us,” manager Steve Davis told Crewe’s official website. “It didn’t take Pogs long to adjust to this level and it would be great for Vadaine to be in the same sort of bracket.”
