Steve Holland hopes to tempt Leicester City striker Matty Fryatt to join the Alex on loan. The 21 year old has been watched in reserve games by the management and chief scout Glyn Chamberlain and they now hope to thrash out a deal with the midlands club.

The former Walsall man has made 25 appearances for Leicester this season but has recently found games hard to come by, and it is thought Leicester will be open to loaning him out for the rest of the season.

Fryatt is a player Crewe once targetted during his time at Walsall and his record speaks for itself at this level; in 39 games he scored 15 games during the 2004/2005 season. He went on to score 14 in 27 games in the first half of the 05/06 season for Walsall before making the move to Leicester in January 2006.

At 5ft 10′ he isn’t exactly the tall target man fans were expecting to arrive, but assistant manager Neil Baker believes he’d be a useful signing.

Baker told The Sentinel newspaper: “I think if the lad was willing to come his club would let him go.

“He`s played a lot and he`s not a kid, so he would offer some experience up there.”
