Jack Lankester’s late penalty saw Crewe Alexandra have deja vu against Carlisle United at Brunton Park yesterday following Monday night’s away game.
Manager Lee Bell made 2 changes from Monday’s 1-1 draw at Port Vale as Lewis Billington and Jack Lankester came in for the suspended Ryan Cooney and the injured Omar Bogle.
The first chance and goal of the game came in the 2nd minute as Cameron Harper’s cross was headed down by Aaron Hayden with Dominic Sadi scoring via a deflection off Zac Williams before the first Alex chance came 15 minutes later as Lankester would force Gabriel Breeze into a save down to his right. The next chance saw Tabiner, on his birthday, shoot straight at Breeze following a free-kick from Lankester that was cleared away.
The first effort of the second half saw Sadi force Filip Marschall into a save midway through the half before the Alex would win a penalty 10 minutes from time as substitute Georgie Kelly would bring down Lankester with the Alex man sending goalkeeper Breeze the wrong way from the spot.
The next games for the Alex see them host Bradford City on Saturday before travelling to Wrexham in the EFL Trophy the following Tuesday, both games are also on Sky.
Final Thoughts:
It’s a point added to the total that could be quite crucial at the end of the season despite Carlisle going into the game as the bottom side in the table and without playing anywhere near our best during the game.
At least we should be fresher for the Bradford game as they host Barrow on Tuesday night (this game was originally going to be played during the same night).
