Crewe Alexandra are now three games unbeaten following a 1-1 draw with Shrewsbury Town at Gresty Road.
On loan striker Tom Hitchcock was on target for the second consecutive game to give them the lead midway through the opening half, until Jon Taylor equalised eleven minutes after the break.
Manager Steve Davis earlier named an unchanged side but was forced into an immediate substitution when Adam Dugdale was carried off after being knocked unconscious. He was replaced by Mark Ellis.
But the Railwaymen recovered from that setback and took the lead when Chuks Aneke headed down Mesca’s cross and fellow loanee Hitchcock nodded past Chris Weale.
Both Mesca and Harry Davis were wide with further efforts while Luke Summerfield replied from 25-yards before on loan Adam Reach was denied by the covering Ellis.
Alex’s young keeper Ben Garratt then produced a fine double-stop from Summerfield and Taylor before Byron Moore and Hitchcock threatened at the other end.
Opposite number Weale was required to turn aside from George Evans following the break, but it was the visitors who levelled through Taylor after a long ball forward witnessed a collision between Davis and Matt Tootle.
Home midfielder Abdul Osman soon called Weale into further action from distance before the hosts lost winger Moore to a head injury and he was replaced by Brad Inman.
However, Aneke twice narrowly missed from decent strikes while Summerfield replied with another effort that went marginally wide.
Later attempts from Aneke and Tootle similarly failed to change a scoreline that was also threatened by Gozie Ugwu and then Tom Eaves, who couldn’t apply enough force to beat Garratt in added time.
