Crewe Alexandra earned their second victory of the season with a 2-1 success at Barnsley.
The Railwaymen went ahead through Ryan Colclough’s first-half free-kick but Alfie Mawson immediately levelled.
However, Lauri Dalla Valle then forced in a winner from Adam King’s cross with eleven minutes remaining.
The visitors had come into the game with ten players either currently injured or away on international duty.
Alex keeper Ben Garratt was called into action by both Kadeem Harris and Marley Watkins during the opening exchanges, while Conor Hourihane also miscued from the edge of the area.
But Colclough lashed in a free-kick after himself being fouled to give the visitors an early lead that lasted only a couple of minutes, with home skipper Mawson instantly heading an equaliser from a Hourihane corner.
Former Crewe trialist Sam Winnall twice went close to adding to that while King’s reply was deflected wide and goalkeeper Nick Townsend collected from Brad Inman.
Hourihane fired directly at Garratt and both Watkins and Mawson also threatened as the hosts pressed on after the break.
Barnsley continued to appear dangerous and Hourihane was too high before their visitors reclaimed the lead when Dalla Valle diverted in King’s 79th minute cross.
Crewe were then required to hold on during the closing stages with Garratt denying both Mawson and Reece Wabara late on.
