Gillingham lose 4-2 at Brighton in a mid week game in hand and therefore swap places with Crewe in the league table without the Alex kicking a ball.

Gillingham’s loss takes their goal difference to minus twenty, meaning they swap places with the Alex who have a minus nineteen goal difference.

This may not have much significance on the overall points difference in the League One table but it makes better reading for the Crewe fans.

Hartlepool who were threatening to fall back into the relegation battle unexpectedly won one nil away at Oldham, putting them seven points ahead of Crewe and pushing them further out of reach.

With struggling Millwall away at league leaders Swansea on friday night, any points picked up by Crewe on saturday against Nottingham Forest would be extremely vital in the push to avoid relegation to League Two.
