Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis is closing in on a replacement goalkeeper.

“We have three or four possible options” – Steve Davis

The Alex need cover for first-choice Ben Garratt following the experienced Scott Shearer moving out on loan to Burton Albion for the remainder of the season.

Youth team goalkeeper Liam Matthews could be named on the bench against Gillingham tomorrow, but Davis has already short-listed three of four potential targets.

“I am very close on a possible goalkeeper,” he told Crewe’s official website. “We have three or four possible options but it is an important gap to fill and I won’t rush into anything because I need a goalkeeper who understands the situation and needs to be patient.”
