Crewe Alexandra are running the rule over former Wolverhampton Wanderers trainee James Spray.

The nineteen-year striker was released by Wolves at the end of last season and is expected to attend a trial next week, although he is similarly being linked with Plymouth Argyle.

Alex could also move for Luton Town winger Robbie Willmott, 22, as manager Steve Davis looks to increase attacking options after already recruiting defenders Mark Ellis and Gregor Robertson.

“We have a few targets,” Davis told This is Staffordshire. “I spoke to a player on Monday who was impressed with the set-up here, so hopefully we can get something sorted.”

He also hopes to keep hold of young defender Kelvin Mellor despite interest from Derby County.
