Checking through the vast list of free transfers will be manager Steve Davis’ immediate goal while looking to add to his squad.

“I don’t think we will be looking to spend money on players” – Steve Davis

The Alex want at least three new players with a midfielder, winger and main central striker top of their requirements.

As such, Davis will be browsing through
an expansive PFA release list while busily identifying likely candidates.

“There are a lot of free transfers but we will try to get the best ones we can,” he told Crewe’s official website. “It is difficult to do anything at this stage of the season because a player and his agent will wait for their best option.

“I don’t think we will be looking to spend money on players,” Davis continued. “We have done that over the last couple of years. We paid for Mark Ellis, Brad [Inman] and Mathias Pogba. They were only nominal fees but we will look at the free market first.”
