AJ Nets Double Against Shrewsbury

Is there any reason why AJ Leitch-Smith shouldn’t be in the side come Saturday?

After his equaliser against Macclesfield Town last night, Leitch-Smith pressed his claim for a starting place further today with a brace against Shrewsbury Town in a reserve friendly.

The Alex turned out 5-1 winners against their Shrews counterparts, the scoreline is quite ironic considering our complete lack of goalscoring pedigree in the first team. Youngsters Antoni Sarcevic, Danny Shelley and Jordan Connerton, who sealed a loan move to Nantwich Town yesterday, also scored in the match.

You’ve got to say that AJ’s goals must now have secured him a spot in the team against Chesterfield. Regardless of his all round performance (which we can’t really comment on) there is no doubt he’s the one with confidence and ability in front of goal right now.

Meanwhile, we presume the trialist in the side was left back Euan Holden, who joined training this month after being released by Danish side Vejle Boldklub in the summer.

Team that faced Shrewsbury:

Bartek Fogler, Lewis Short, Adam Dugdale, trialist, Mat Mitchel-King, Harry Davis, Antoni Sarcevic, Kelvin Mellor, Byron Moore, Nick Powell, AJ Leitch-Smith, Jordan Connerton, Danny Shelley
