Steve Holland has confirmed that the club had a bid accepted by Stockport County for Anthony Elding, but Leeds scuppered any potential deal.

The Alex made an offer of roughly £200,000 for the 25 year old on Tuesday but once Leeds entered the frame, and had their bid accepted yesterday morning, there was never really much chance of capturing the former Boston man.

Steve Holland confirmed the news to The Sentinel: ‘We had a bid for Elding accepted, but Leeds came in for him. We’ve made a million inquiries and tabled bids for five centre forwards this month, but for one reason or another we’ve not been able to land any.’

The Alex failed to sign a single player permanently, with Bournemouth’s Sam Vokes also rejecting a move, and it seems their last hope of survival in this league rests on loans and free transfers.
