Academy Alumni #8 – September 18th 2018

Our weekly look at how the products of the Alex academy system looks at the middle weekend of September.

We start in the Premier League where Ashley Westwood came on for the final 11 minutes for Burnley in their 1-0 defeat away at Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday.

Onto the Championship with Luke Murphy not involved for Bolton Wanderers in their 2-1 home defeat against QPR.

Cheyenne Dunkley played the full game and Nick Powell played 67 minutes and was booked before being substituted for Wigan Athletic in their 2-0 defeat away at Brentford.

Billy Jones was an unused substitute in Rotherham United’s 1-0 win at home to Derby.

Into League 1 where Ryan Colclough played the opening 66 minutes for Scunthorpe United in their 3-2 victory at AFC Wimbledon.

Kelvin Mellor was not involved for Bradford City in their 2-0 defeat at home to Charlton Athletic.

Junior Brown played the full game for Coventry City in their 1-0 win against Barnsley.

Liam Nolan was not involved in Accrington Stanley’s 1-1 away at Fleetwood Town.

Gareth Evans played the full game for Portsmouth in their 2-1 victory at Peterborough United whilst George Cooper was an unused substitute for the hosts.

Finally into League 2 where Ritchie Sutton was not involved for Tranmere Rovers in their 2-0 victory away at Carlisle United.

Ben Garratt, Perry Ng, George Ray, Callum Ainley (first 80 minutes), Ryan Wintle, James Jones, Charlie Kirk and Shaun Miller all started for Crewe Alexandra in their 0-0 draw at Cheltenham Town. Tom Lowery and Ollie Finney were both unused subs for the Alex whilst Chris Clements was an unused sub for the hosts.

AJ Leitch-Smith played the full game for Morecambe in their 2-0 defeat away at Crawley Town whilst Jason Oswell was not involved for the visitors.

Harry Davis played the full game in Grimsby Town’s 3-0 defeat at home to Oldham Athletic.

Michael O’Connor played the full game for Lincoln City in their 2-1 victory at Macclesfield Town.

Matt Tootle came on at half-time in Notts County’s 3-3 draw at home to Stevenage. David Vaughan was not involved for the hosts whilst Will Appleyard was not involved for the visitors.

Billy Waters came off the bench for the final 33 minutes in Northampton Town’s 2-0 defeat away at Port Vale.

Finally Byron Moore scored both goals for Bury in their 2-1 victory at Swindon Town. He played the full game and was booked during the game.
