Abbey Set For Recall

Alex assistant manager Neil Baker has hinted George Abbey is likely to be including in the Crewe starting line-up on Saturday after an excellent performance mid-week in the reserves against Walsall.

In his only start of the season against Millwall, Abbey gave arguably one of the best defensive performances of the season from a Crewe player at centre-half, even though by trade he`s a full back.

Since then Abbey has not been back in the team due to other players recovering from injury and Crewe have not kept a clean sheet, conceding 11 goals in 4 games.

If he comes back though he may even fill one of the full back positions meaning either Danny Woodards or Billy Jones may miss out.

Woodards has been one of Crewe`s most consistent performers this season but has yet to fully rediscover his form from the end of last season. Jones hasn`t lived up to his early season promise either and with some shaky defensive performances recently may be taken out, with Abbey or unused left-full back Ryan Lynch ready to step in.

Although Abbey must be frustrated about not keeping his place after his man of the match performance against Millwall, hopefully if he plays on Saturday he can bring the experienced quality and professional balance that the Crewe defence has been lacking of late.
