A step in the right direction

Same old inept performances, same old poor excuses from manager Steve Holland.

The FA Cup 1st Round game at Gresty Road yesterday saw Steve Holland’s team struggle past Ebbsfleet, a typical Conference outfit.

It would have been hard to pick who were the Conference team had you turned up without the knowledge, and it was especially down to how well Ebbsfleet played. They must have been wondering why all the fuss about League football as we struggled to match them at even the basic standard.

Clayton Donaldson’s finish for his third goal in two games was the only bit of class in the entire 90 minutes of drab football, which could no doubt be used as a form of torture by the US for any future terror suspects.

Steve Holland however continued to look on the bright side. Despite continuing protests for Holland to step down as manager, he gaffer believes this is actually a step in the right direction…

Speaking to crewealex.net, Holland said: ‘We have had to win ugly today and although it wasn’t a good performance I am pleased for the players that they have got there in the end and won the game. It was a no-win situation for us this afternoon and with the form we have been in, it was a real potential banana skin for us.

‘We were hardly a threat at all and the only bright spark in that first half was the goal. The second half we went down a diffferent road, if I’m honest. If we couldn’t play through, with what we practice then we had to use affective football.

‘We have got some work to do with the team, we know that, but hopefully this win will be a step in the right direction because it was a tough game.’
