Here’s a quick look at some of the players who left Gresty Road at the end of last season. Some for transfer fee’s, but most released by Gudjon. Some impressive performances by the former Alex lads.

Carrington & Woodards

Both Carrington and Woodards played the full 90 minutes for Paul Ince’s MK Dons side. The end result was a 0-0 bore draw with Hartlepool United. By all accounts both players had a steady game and didn’t look out of place at all in a team set to be chasing promotion in League 1 this term, and yet Carrington wasn’t good enough for Crewe in League 2.

McCready

McCready started and remained injury free for the whole 90 minutes in his first outing for the Cobblers. Not only that, but he held up well and helped the team to a clean sheet. Ben Marshall, poached by Steve Holland to Stoke also played the full 90 minutes.

Pope

Pope lead the line for Rotherham playing for the full 90 minutes. Rotherham ran out as 1-0 winners against Accrington Stanley with Pope failing to get on the score sheet.

O’Connor

Occy managed to play the final 15 minutes for Scunthorpe as they were battered 4-0 away to Cardiff City in the Championship. O’Connor will be hoping to force his way into the starting XI and could get his chance with Scunthorpe losing so heavily.

Daniels

Junior Daniels was another Alex player released that managed to put in a full 90 minutes for a team in League 2. Daniels was also one of the leading threats for Macclesfield as they looked the stronger side against Northampton. All in all though, Daniels couldn’t beat McCready’s strong Northampton defence.

Tomlinson

The cat played the full 90 minutes for Barrow and had arguably the best performance of the former Alex players on the opening day. He kept a clean sheet, while Barrow were down to 10 men against promotion hopefuls Cambridge United.
